Rick Gunn approaches every day as a chance to get closer to the Source of Life. He works on this vocationally as the Minister of Music and Youth at Bedford United Church in Nova Scotia. Through his ministry of educating and journeying with young people he finds new revelations about and deep connectedness to the Holy One. Through leading worship music involving over 80 volunteer singers and musicians (plus several hundred voices in the “congregational choir”), Rick seeks to open the community’s heart, mind and body to the Holy Spirit and the wonderful mystery of God that is beyond words.
Through the larger church community he has served on the More Voices Development Team, the national Year of Sabbath committee, the Maritime Conference Youth Forum as chair and has been invited as key-note speaker and workshop leader at United Church events across Canada. Also an avid sacred music composer he has set Luke and Matthew’s birth narratives to music in two separate cantatas. His third cantata used elements of both narratives interwoven with pieces about youth homelessness. He also composes lyrics and music to fill the many gaps and needs in Christian worship music based on the evolving theology of the United Church of Canada.
