Bedford United Church officially sponsors and supports several mission oriented organizations within our city and province. The Nova Scotia Gambia Association (NSGA) is one of these. BUC provides representation to the NSGA Board, provides financial and volunteer support, and engages in personnel exchanges with people of the Gambia through the NSGA. Every 3 years, BUC sends a group of teens to the Gambia for cultural, religious and international development learning. If you would like to learn more about our relationship with the NSGA or how to get involved, please phone the church office for contact information. 835-8497.
Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia-Gambia Association is a non-profit, non-government organization (or NGO) dedicated to the creation and operation of sustainable development programs for Gambian and Canadian youth. Since 1985, the NSGA has carried out more than 25 successful development projects in The Gambia, mainly in the health and education sectors.
From its origins as a Nova Scotia high school development-education trip – the first time a Canadian high school class had ever traveled to Africa – to its present-day activities as an international NGO delivering a Gambia-wide community-based Peer Health Education Program focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, the Nova Scotia-Gambia Association has introduced more than 500 Canadians to the realities of life in a developing West African nation, and touched the lives of thousands of young Gambians.
The NSGA maintains offices in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Fajara, The Gambia. Working with a variety of program partners, the NSGA develops, proposes, funds and implements youth- empowering projects which have the potential to make a profound and positive impact on the lives and health of the next generation in The Gambia.
