Our History as an Affirming Ministry
Bedford United Church is an Affirming Ministry of the United Church of Canada. We received our designation from Affirm United at a celebration service on Sunday, May 7, 2006.  

Our Mission Statement (adopted by Bedford United in 1994)
To be a vibrant Christian community, worshipping God, growing spiritually, accepting all people, ministering to each other in love, and offering hope while working for peace and justice for all creation!

Our Statement of Faith (adopted by Bedford United in 2005)
We the people of Bedford United Church declare publicly our commitment to creating a community where all people are welcome regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, differing abilities, ethnic background or economic circumstance.

All persons are welcome to take part in every aspect of church life including membership, leadership, celebrating life passages and marriage.

We celebrate the richness that divers ity brings to our church, even as it challenges us. We pray for God’s spirit to guide us as we work for reconciliation and justice for all persons in both church and society.

“Affirm United is an organization of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities within The United Church of Canada. We work to provide the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in the church and in society. We are a worshipping, pastoral, and prophetic community celebrating the biblical and theological liberation. We believe that all people are created in the image of God and are unconditionally loved by God.”
