Communion at Bedford United Church |
The sacrament of communion, also known as the "Eucharist" or the "Lord's Supper", is served at Bedford United Church on each of the major festivals of the church year: the first Sunday of Advent, Christmas Eve at 11:00 p.m., the first Sunday of Lent, Easter Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, and World Wide Communion Sunday which is always the first Sunday in October.
At the contemporary 9:00 a.m. service, people come forward to receive communion whereas at the 11 a.m. service they are served in the pews.
In the United Church of Canada, we celebrate an open table. That is, for anyone, children, women and men, who feel they have been touched or yearn to be touched by the Presence of God, as It was and is revealed in Jesus, all are welcome to celebrate in this sacred meal. The community of Jesus' church is like a large weaving or tapestry. There is a place and a role for everyone in this tapestry. Everyone is welcome to the table.
